Applications for Binding Screws

Binding Screws are used to join materials such as paper, cardboard, fabric or leather. They therefore represent an alternative to rivets and are also known as screw rivets. Furthermore, the term ‘Chicago screw’ is a synonym for them. In addition to binding loose-leaf collections – such as menus – they are also used in sample collections and fan-fold leaflets. Screw rivets are also used in textile and leather products, such as bags or belts.

Fitting Binding Screws

To begin the assembly, punch holes in your material. The diameter of the screw shank is 5 mm. A standard hole punch (5.5 mm holes) can therefore be used to punch holes in the material.

Screw rivets always consist of two parts: the screw head and the screw shank. You can choose between two different designs:

- In the version with an M4 screw head, the screw head and the shank are screwed together. You should choose this version if the connection needs to be easily undone. An example is replacing pages in a menu.

- In the version with a press-fit head, this is pressed into the screw shaft. You can use a hammer, for example. You should choose this type of connection if the fastening is not to be undone.
